An unidentified German transgender man gave birth to a baby earlier this year after using a sperm donor to become pregnant.
The man, who was born with female reproductive organs, is
the first transgender man to have a baby in Europe, according to the
Mail Online.
He delivered the baby at home with the help of a midwife to avoid being identified as a “mother” on hospital records.
“The person in question did not want to appear as a mother
but as a father on the birth certificate and that request has been
honored,” a spokesman for the Berlin Senate Administration said.
For years, the man has reportedly been taking hormone therapies so he can change sexes.
The baby, who was born in March, is a boy and officially has no mother, just a father.
This is the first recorded time a transgender person has
had a child in Europe, but in the U.S., Thomas Beatie, a transgender
man, has had three children.
