Causes and Treatments for Excessive Gas and Stomach Bloating

That was my experience anyway, and as comedic as it can start off, it can also very quickly become a serious challenge in your life that makes you fretful enough to avoid certain social gatherings.

I would also imagine that by now, you are so sick and tired of the discomfort and pains associated with excessive flatulence, and that you think you’ve tried all the treatments and remedies available — and that there is no hope for you.

I would even take a guess that you believe there is no cure to your problem, because you’ve tried everything else, and that your search has led you to my article, in desperate hope that you are wrong?

Well, I want to crush your doubts and biggest fears right now, that you cannot cure yourself of your gassy problem.

Because, YOU CAN.

I don’t say this because I am an expert or a doctor, but simply because if I can cure myself of wind and the all too often embarrassed bright red face (you know what I am talking about), after I was in your position, then I absolutely believe that you can rid yourself of chronic flatulence, too, and for good.

Not by medication or any other weird and wonderful urban myth or ‘spell’ you may have heard about. But simply by implementing small changes in your diet and your lifestyle the way I had to.
Have you tried the ‘over the counter medications’ which you can find in most pharmacists? I imagine so.

They are supposed to cure all your flatulence problems, but the truth is, they are commonly known for making your flatulence, stomach cramps and diarrhea worse, and are occasionally to blame for causing further health problems.

So if you were considering taking one of them, the best advice we could offer is to have a private consolation with your doctor first, and or to avoid them at all costs if you are not sure what they will do.

There are, however, a number of completely natural and organic solutions that do help with gas, cramps, constipation and bloating. Just read some of the reviews, and you’ll see that people are using certain therapies (I will list some later, so you can go read their comments), and are really living ‘flatulence free’.

What Causes Flatulence?

Flatulence is almost a taboo subject for most people isn’t it? Ok, the younger generation get a kick out of an older person farting, hey even my daughter laughed at me the other day when I got out my armchair and, well, oops

You know what I mean – when you’re in work and always have a pen in your hand, where does it usually end up? In your mouth. It’s just a bad habit that needs to be broken.

We are all told to eat vegetables as part of our health nutrition plan, but believe it or not, there is an abundance of vegetables which contain non-digestible carbohydrates, that can cause a bunch of problems including the production of intestinal gases

When you eat these foods, some of it resists the digestion process and are left undigested in your colon.

This creates the gas and is one which we cannot usually avoid, unless you know which foods not to eat, including vegetables that you should be eating to combat the formation of intestinal gases.

The undigested food is what causes endogenous gases – gases which are produced in your digestive system.

As the digestion process begins to work, any food which is not digested by your stomach, moves along through the colon and builds up gases along the way.

You should be aware that these gases – carbon dioxide , hydrogen and methane (find out more, here – are produced by bacteria in the intestines (colon) when those poorly absorbed carbohydrates are present.

And if your windy problems get worse, and by that I mean you get serious bouts of diarrhea and experience weight loss, it could indicate a more serious problem such as pancreatic insufficiency, which is a food absorption disease. If that is the case, you should immediately consult your doctor.

As with everything in life, I believe in being proactive and not re-active. Hit the problem at its root.

You already know the circumstances of being ‘reactive’, so lets turn that focus around so you can live a healthier, gas free life.

Here are some tips which should help you:

Try consuming easily digested and absorbed foods like rice, potatoes, citrus fruit, berries, nuts and bananas – in small quantities.

Steer clear of starchy foods, like wheat products, including bread and pasta. Wheat is a major cause of many stomach ailments.

You may even have a gluten intolerance, which means that your body does not accept wheat products, so we recommend eliminating all of them from your diet (at first), and stick to an all natural nutrition plan.

In other words, stay clear of processed foods and things you can buy in tins and packets. Then if your condition clears up, add some of those foods which were causing your flatulence, back into your diet and see which ones give you problems.

Do it one food at a time, if you add more than one back into your diet, you won’t know which one to avoid. Do it one at a time.

This is the only true way you’ll be able to find out what is causing your gas. Stick to the foods above, along with white meat and fish. And split your meals into five or six small portions, eaten throughout the day instead of three large meals.

Splitting your meals up puts less strain on your digestive system, because it has to do less work at one time. You’re less likely to get stomach cramps this way.
Chew your food slowly and carefully, so you don’t swallow too much air.

Also, chewing your food more will reduce the amount of digestion your stomach has to do later, because your saliva releases the first digestive enzyme of the whole journey. The stomach is where all flatulence problems start, so it’s a good idea to give it less work to do.

If you have been a heavy soda and carbonated drinks advocate, try switching to just water or non-carbonated drinks. If you do want a soda, just take sips and don’t drink the whole can at one time. These things cause huge amounts of gas in your digestive system.

One of the biggest mistakes I used to make, was eating my supper and then going to bed. Sometimes I would even eat a big dinner in the afternoon, and then go take a nap which is so bad for the digestive tract, because it allows gas to pass from the stomach into the intestines a whole lot easier, when you lie down.

And if I could give you one final tip, it would be to exercise daily, even a brisk 30 to 60 minute walk is ideal because this really gets your body functioning normally, and your gut will absolutely love you for it. Your body just works better when you exercise.

Natural and Over the Counter Remedies for Flatulence?

As a general rule, the best flatulence treatment is changing your diet and living a more healthy lifestyle.

But this does not always work for some people, because some people can react very differently to certain healthy food types, compared to others.

So eating a healthy diet, or eating certain components of a healthy diet can actually increase intestinal gas in your digestive system.

If this is you, then you need to experiment with your favorite foods and find out what you can or cannot eat.

But, there are over-the-counter remedies available for flatulence and bloated stomach problems.

Where some are aimed more at people suffering from irritable bowel syndrome, others which contain charcoal are designed to absorb the gas in your digestive system. This may work for you.

However, charcoal tablets may not suit you if you are already taking other medication, because they could potentially absorb that medication.
