PARENTS of schoolchildren across the county have now received letters
reminding them to get their youngsters vaccinated against measles.
County council officials say about 2,700 pupils between the ages of 10 and 16 are thought not to have had the MMR jab – which protects them against measles, mumps and rubella.
There are two doses of the vaccine available – the first gives 95% defence against the disease and the second offers almost complete protection.
The authority decided to send out the letters following an outbreak of measles in the Swansea area of South Wales.
