Salad dressing can help men with prostate cancer to survive the killer disease.

One tablespoon-sized serving of oil-based dressing a day was associated with a 29% lower risk of potentially fatal prostate cancer.

Research suggests the disease can be deterred by eating healthy oils and nuts as they increase antioxidants in the blood and reduce insulin and inflammation.

Earlier studies have highlighted the beneficial effects of unsaturated fats on cardiovascular health.
Dr Erin Richman, of the University of California at San Francisco, said: “Research has shown additional potential benefits of consuming unsaturated fats among men with prostate cancer.”

Of the 41,000 men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, almost 11,000 die from the disease.
The research was published in the JAMA Internal Medicine journal.
