The human body is simply amazing. Without even consciously thinking
about it, our heart pumps blood all day and night throughout our entire
lives. Our lungs collect oxygen and expel carbon dioxide and other
toxins.
Our digestive system turns the food we eat into vital energy to
keep the whole operation running smoothly.
The human body can achieve
all of this under even the worst of circumstances. We can survive for
weeks without food, withstand fairly extreme temperatures, and endure
mental and physical stress daily.
But just like any complex engine, our
bodies work most efficiently when we treat them well.
In turn, when our
bodies are running at an optimal level, our minds and spirits are also
lifted- resulting in clear, serene focus and a positive disposition.
Here a few ways you can improve clarity of mind and spirit by simply training your body to achieve clarity.
Exercise: The
human body hasn’t changed much over the last few thousand years. We are
designed to only acquire food once we have either hunted it down,
searched for it, or grown it. We only recently have been able to consume
calories without first expending them.
Also, exercise is a source of
good stress for your body. According to scientists,
“to protect yourself and your brain from stress, you release a protein
called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor).
This BDNF has a
protective and also reparative element to your memory neurons and acts
as a reset switch.”
Even just twenty minutes a day of moderate,
sustained exercise will clear your head and boost your spirits.
Food Choices:
We all know that fresh, organic, simple food is the best for us, but it
can sometimes be hard to avoid processed, convenient food when we’re in
a hurry or out to eat.
The key to any responsible diet is flexibility-
making sure that the majority of what you eat is healthy can go a long
way. Beyond whole grains and fresh produce, there are certain foods that
really help clear your mind.
Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory,
which reduces the plaque build up in the brain that can cause
Alzheimer’s. Seaweed and fish are great sources of iodine and omega 3s,
both of which are crucial to brain health.
Fasting:
Modern humans and our domesticated animals are the only examples of
life on earth that eat on a regular schedule. Many experts agree that
moderate fasting is a natural, healthy choice, and you don’t have to be
extreme to feel the effects.
Start with fasting just one or two days per
week, and even on those days it’s okay to eat when you feel you should.
Just eat much less than you normally would, and only when you truly
feel hungry.
People who fast claim to feel a heightened consciousness,
and a mental clarity not found anywhere else.
We’re all familiar with
the lethargy and fog that follows a big meal, fasting is basically the
opposite.
A study from the University of Chicago highlights the difference in test scores between students who had fasted and those who hadn’t.
Your mental clarity is within your control- your body is ready to be a
vessel of purity and strength, it just needs the right maintenance plan
to achieve its ultimate potential.
