Over Sixty VVF Patients Get Free Surgeries in Niger

Over sixty patients suffering from Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF) underwent free surgeries, while over 2,000 women get free cancer screening and cancelling in Niger through the office of the Wife of the Governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello within the last two years.



The breakdown shows that 19 VVF surgeries were performed at the Kotangora General Hospital; 30 at the Umaru Sanda Ndayako hospital, 10 at the Minna General hospital, while 4 patients had theirs at Katsina Fistula Centre.

A statement by her chief press secretary, Aisha Wakaso also disclosed 1, 029 women got free cervical cancer screening, while 1, 145 were for breast cancer screening in conjunction with some non-governmental organization.

The statement said out of those screened for breast cancers 15 have developed lump with nine referred for mammography, while two with advanced stage were on referral outside the state and the cost of the surgeries paid by the wife of the governor.

According to the statement 1, 500 women drawn from rural areas across the state have so far benefited from different empowerment programmes some of whom have also become employers of labour.

Seventy-two women cooperatives have received cheques in various sums for agricultural activities; 250 women and youths on embellishment, tailoring and decoration, the statement said.

It also said that over a hundred women and youths were trained on leather work, bead making, even as 500 other women were also empowered with multipurpose crop milling machines in Lavun, Paikoro and Gurara local government areas respectively within the period amongst others.
