With regard to the article “Food prices go up 15% as Ramadan
approaches” (June 25), we must remember that the purpose of fasting in
Ramadan is to know the pain of hunger and to reach out to know the state
of the poor in society.
Zakat is our acknowledgement of the sufferings of the poor.
However, surprisingly people engage in overeating in Ramadan and actually gain weight!
Are we understanding and practicing our religion in its true perspective? Can we stop this eating competition and flush the toxins out of our body and mind in the holy month of Ramadan?
