Randy Travis In 'Critical' Condition After Stroke And Surgery

The publicist of Grammy award-winning country star Randy Travis has confirmed that he is in critical condition after suffering a stroke and undergoing brain surgery.

54-year-old Travis has been hospitalised in a Texas hospital since Sunday after his family became extremely concerned with his rapidly deteriorating health.

His doctors confirmed that he was Travis was suffering from cardiomyopathy and congestive heart failure when he was admitted.

"Mr. Randy Travis is out of surgery and in critical condition," the hospital website announced last night.

"As a complication of his congestive heart failure Mr Randy Travis has suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing surgery to relieve pressure on his brain. He is in critical condition," his publicist Kirk Webster said.

Webster also said that his condition is a result of a "recently acquired viral cardiomyopathy."
His family are said to be “frantic” with worry and Dr. Michael Mack from the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas told ABC News that his family and friends are grateful for all the support they have received from well-wishers.

“On behalf of his Mr. Travis’ family, friends and associates, we would like to express our extreme gratitude for the overwhelming affection and support that Mr. Travis has received,” he said.

The news comes after it was reported yesterday that he was responding to treatment for his condition.

Travis is known for his hits Ever Amen and Three Wooden Crosses but in 2012 he hit the headlines for walking into a store completely naked and trying to buy cigarettes before crashing his car. He was fined and received probation for the arrest.
