The MS Society works in partnership to provide training on multiple
sclerosis (MS) to junior doctors in the Preston area each year. This
training takes place on four days spread throughout the year, generally
at the Royal Preston Hospital, but occasionally at Chorley Hospital.
A key part of each training day is one or two volunteers who have MS talking about their condition and how it has affected them.
As volunteer coordinator you will coordinate these volunteers by checking who can help at each training day, finding new volunteers as and when needed, and making sure volunteers are supported in their role.
In addition, you will welcome and support volunteers on the day and follow up with them afterwards to thank them and check if they need any additional support.
As these events take place on week days you will need to be available to attend four week days a year (currently Mondays).
You will be the kind of person who likes meeting new people and has good communication skills. You will be organised and will have regular access to a computer and email. In addition, you will be willing to work closely with the staff member who organises the junior doctor training, liaising with them by telephone and email.
In return you will find this a rewarding and valuable volunteer role which helps to shape the care people with MS receive now and in the future.
All our volunteers are based at their own home but you will need to live in the vicinity of Preston.
