NAFDAC says a lot of the bitters available for sale are not duly registered with the agency.
The National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, on Tuesday warned Nigerians against the consumption of a variety of bitters as a lot of them are not registered with the agency.
The Chief Regulatory Officer at the Aba, Abia State office of NAFDAC, Udoekpo Ekpo, said that some of the bitters which had become popular among the people have registration numbers that are fake. He also said a lot of the importers could not be traced.
Mr. Ekpo said the agency was mopping the products from market stalls to safeguard the lives of persons who are ignorantly consuming them.
He advised the people to be careful with what they purchase for consumption, adding that packaged products not registered by NAFDAC should be avoided.
“Buyers should be patient when buying food and drugs in the market. They should carefully check for the batch number, manufacturer’s address, the expiry date and what the product contains,’’ he said.
