Bluish Earth Planet Found

With its cool glow of deep cobalt blue, this planet could easily be mistaken for Earth by any extraterrestrial passing through our galaxy.

But an azure glow is about the only thing Earth has in common with the gas giant, where temperatures exceed 1,000C and it rains glass, sideways, in winds of up to 7,000 kilometres per hour.

One Step Closer to Another Earth

Twenty years ago, we thought that the solar system, with its collection of planets – which then included now-demoted Pluto – was unique. But in the past few years, new data – aided by planet-hunting spacecraft Kepler – has shown that, not only are there billions of planets in the universe, in the Milky Way they are also the rule rather than the exception.

Astronomers at the University of Manchester have detected mysterious radio signals from 11 billion light years away. The origins of these enigmatic radio waves have yet to be identified, as astronomers are still combing over their data.
