A woman believed to be a suicide bomber during a raid in Paris did not blow herself up, officials have said.
Initial reports said Hasna Ait
Boulahcen, 26, was wearing a suicide vest, but it was determined that
while the woman was found dead after the raid, she did not detonate the
explosive device, CNN reported on Friday.
Instead, a man was wearing a
suicide vest that detonated during the raid in the Paris suburb of
Saint-Denis on Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office told CNN.
Dubbed “The Cowgirl,” Boulahcen was known to wear the western hat before she began wearing a veil about a month ago, her brother reportedly said.
Until recently Boulahcen lived in her French hometown of Aulnay-sous-Bois, family told CNN.
She was identified as the cousin
of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who authorities suspected coordinated the
terrorist attacks in Paris. He also died during the Wednesday raid.
During a video of the raid, a police officer can be heard yelling “where is your boyfriend?”
A woman replies, “He’s not my boyfriend!” before the explosion triggered by the suicide vest.
Salah Abdeslam, a key suspect in
the Paris attacks, remained at large Friday and had been last seen
driving toward the Belgian border.
He was stopped by police, who
eventually let him go, not realizing he was allegedly involved in the Paris attacks.
Another person has died as a result of attacks, bringing the death toll to 130, French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said Friday.
