Coffee Can Help Fight Cancer - Study

A recent study shows that coffee may just prevent liver cancer. According to research, someone who consumes five cups of coffee a day is at a lower risk of getting in contact with liver cancer, than a person who doesn't.

Taking global deaths into account liver cancer ranks second in the list of deaths caused by cancer.

The research mentions that the larger the consumption of coffee, the greater was the protection against HCC.

It was observed that one cup of caffeinated coffee cuts down the risk of developing hepatocellular cancer up to twenty per cent.

Coffee has been observed to be beneficial in fighting against the development of HCC but to a lower extent.

Coffee has often been dubbed as a bane, but recent studies have shown that coffee can have remarkable effects on keeping liver cancer at bay.

"We're not suggesting that everyone should start drinking five cups of coffee a day though. There needs to be more investigation into the potential harms of high coffee-caffeine intake, and there is evidence it should be avoided in certain groups such as pregnant women," IANS quotes lead author Oliver Kennedy from the University of Southampton as saying.

It is not suggested that one should start consuming coffee in high amounts, obviously. It has been discovered that coffee possesses compounds which are anti-inflammatory , anti-carcinogenic and is also laden with many other beneficial properties that helps in minimising the risk of not just liver cancer but other chronic liver diseases too.

Researchers also suggest that coffee has shown potent results in beating down cirrhosis and also showed positive results. The relationship between liver cancer and coffee was deduced after a careful scrutiny of 26 observational studies.

These studies comprised more than 2.25 million participants and calculated the relative risk of developing HCC. The results thus obtained showed that caffeine when consumed in moderation can be a wonderful medicine.
