Diabetes Has Higher Chances of Affecting Patient with Heart Disease - expert

In a recent study it has been found that diabetes, especially Type 2 diabetes, has a direct link with cardiovascular diseases. In fact, a person who suffers from diabetes is at a higher risk of developing heart diseases as compared to a non-diabetic person.



He can experience a stroke or a cardiovascular failure at an earlier age. CAD, Coronary artery disease is another common condition that occurs because of diabetes.

While reviewing the connection between diabetes and heart diseases, expert Dr Rajiv Kovil called Diabetes as a vascular disease. He said, diabetes occur due to inadequate use and production of insulin.

When it happens, the plaque is forced to accumulate within the arteries of the heart with a higher pace and as a further result, conditions such as abnormal triglyceride and cholesterol levels, hypertension, poor control of blood sugar levels and obesity are caused.

Also, because of diabetes, the blood thickens and leads to high blood pressure and coronary artery disease.

Dr Kovil also said: "Diabetes is like a bad friend, it attracts a number of other bad friends like high levels of bad cholesterol, and reduces good cholesterol, thickens the blood and leads to hypertension".

As a conclusion, diabetes can lead to heart attack or a CAD.
