"Holy Spirit Led Me To Start This Church"- General Overseer Of Nigerian Gay Church

Despite the Federal Government's intolerance for Gay activities in Nigeria, Reverend Jide Macaulay, has damned all consequences and reopened his gay church, House of Rainbow in Lagos.

Its primary vision is to reach out to sexual minorities in Nigeria, UK, and around the world.

Rev Rowland Jide Macaulay is a confirmed and ordained Pastor who founded the House Of Rainbow Church in 2006. He openly held Sunday services in a Lagos hotel hall decked out with rainbow flags until the public revolted against the church.

He then fled to the UK after death threats.

"For me I have always been gay and I never became gay.

I became aware of my same sex attraction whilst living in Nigeria at the age of seven. Boys flirt with each other unknowing all the time and it was at this stage that I was more aware of my emotional, physical, mental and sexual attraction to boys.

I was 14 when I had my first sex with a guy, it was filled with curiousity, passion, embarassment and guilt as with with any heterosexual having sex for the first time.

By this age I had become a youth leader in the church and had spent time reading the bible including discovering chapters that "condemned" homosexuality.

Imagine the furore of my life? Now I have to be discrete, secretive and live a lie. When I look back at my life it never stopped my same sex attractions.

Fast forward thirty years, I am now fully confident that being gay is my natural being and I regretted ever trying to be straight.

I regretted that I did not get the education and appropriate spiritual development to be a gay man. I can understand that and that is why I am determined that the short life I may live in this world I trust God for the development of inclusive Christian education to enable the freedom of the mind, body, soul and spirit.

Recently, my father asked me to prove that homosexuality is genetics. I just looked at him and pointed to myself, "ME" you made me, you gave birth to a homosexual boy he was anxious to know more, so I asked him to prove to me that God is real, not that I don't know but if we were to play "doubting Thomas", lets lay all the cards out.

My homosexuality is real, I am gay and I did not become gay, just like I am black and I did not become black. This is a great way to move forward in life and let the world know that they may hate us but God Adores Us.

House Of Rainbow Fellowship is an inclusive Christian community, that welcomes all people and does not discriminate against LGBTI people (of faith or no faith).

I am proud that the Holy Spirit has led me to start this group, (nearly five years). We are growing with passion and relevance and it is my hope that we would be able to advance the learning and inclusion of all people.

I love myself and it is my daily prayer and hope that millions of LGBTI people around the world, their friends and families will come to understand and love them."

12 Tested Positive In Bauchi

Over the last one week and few days, 12 people connected to the Federal Medical Centre, Azare, Bauchi, have tested positive for COVID-19. 

On April 28, the hospital recorded three confirmed Coronavirus cases: a doctor, a nurse and a patient in the employ of PHCN who had been on admission in the ward for a week. 

The doctor hadn’t travelled out of town for weeks, meaning this was a case of community infection.

Therefore, it was hugely surprising that the hospital did not conduct proper contact tracing; the known primary contacts of these confirmed cases were not isolated. 

Instead, the hospital management told them to continue working as usual.

As on May 3, one patient who had spent five days in the ward tested positive with three additional hospital staff, two nurses and a doctor tested positive for the virus too. 

These nurses were primary contacts of the nurse who tested positive on April 28. Anyone would be forgiven for expecting the hospital, at this point, to learn from its mishandling of the index cases, but nothing changed. 

Nurses and doctors in the same department who had repeated contact with the confirmed cases were not isolated.

They were told to continue working, consequently interacting with their colleagues, patients and families! 

Now, the wife and two children of the doctor who tested positive on April 28 as well as two daughters of one of the nurses who tested positive on May 3 have all been presently positive.

Despite the scale of this tragedy, there isn’t yet one official statement from the hospital management announcing the confirmed cases to its staff or regulating the influx of people into the hospital & outpatient clinics.

Sadly, some healthcare workers at the FMC are starting to show symptoms of the virus, yet they’re being made to attend to other patients within the hospital. 

The number of suspected cases in Azare has recently been rising rapidly in a manner similar to Kano’s.

FMC Azare urgently needs proper contact tracing and isolation of primary contacts of confirmed cases.

Delaying this intervention will fuel the festering of the stealthily-brewing health crisis in Azare, and it could spill to the rest of Bauchi.

In addition, some people in that hospital have shirked their responsibilities.

Those who bungled FMC Azare’s handling of these COVID-19 cases must be investigated, identified and punished as it will serve as a deterrence to other senior health officials elsewhere who have scant regard for the sanctity of the human lives in their care.

Be Prepare For Deep Crisis – UN warns

The General Secretary to the United Nation António Guterres, has warned that the world is about to be faced with another deep emergency aside the Coronavirus pandemic.

Guterres on Wednesday said the biodiversity was declining sharply and climate disruption approaching a point of no return

Guterres made this known in his message to mark the International Mother Earth Day, NAN reports.

He said although the world is currently occupied with the COVID-19 pandemic, the world was facing another deep emergency which is the planet’s unfolding environmental crisis’

The UN chief, therefore called for decisive global action to protect the planet from both the coronavirus and the “existential threat of climate disruption’’.

Guterres further proposed climate-related actions to save countries.

“First, as we spend huge amounts of money to recover from the coronavirus, we must deliver new jobs and businesses through a clean, green transition.

“Second, where taxpayers’ money is used to rescue businesses, it needs to be tied to achieving green jobs and sustainable growth.

“Third, fiscal firepower must drive a shift from the grey to green economy, and make societies and people more resilient,’’ he said.

“We need an end to fossil fuel subsidies and the need for environmental polluters to be held accountable and made to pay compensation.

“Climate risks and opportunities must be incorporated into the financial system as well as all aspects of public policy making and infrastructure,’’ he added.

President Muhammad Buhari Approves Drug’s Patent For Nigerian Researcher

Green light in the tunnel for the production and acceptance of the Nigerian anti-retroviral drug for the cure of HIV/ AIDS which is developed by Prof. Maduike Ezeibe, a renowned researcher at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia State, has received a boost with the granting of application for patent right to produce the drug for consumption by President Muhammadu Buhari.

This is in addition to financial assistance given to the researcher by Abia State government and the management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike to carry out more trials on the efficacy of the drug both within and outside the country.

Professor Ezeibe’s claims recently to have found a cure for the dreaded scourge, using Aluminium Magnasium Silicate (AMS) and simple sugar to attack the virus in any part of the body, including the “sanctuary cells” had raised some criticisms and skepticisms from many circles despite his claims of cure for over 10 patients and research findings published in international journals.

Speaking on AMS at a lecture, organised by the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the MOUA to mark the World AIDS Day Celebration on Friday, he advised persons living with the scourge not to despair.

He said that a permanent cure was imminent, pointing out that researchers all over the world were making concerted efforts to develop a cure for one of the greatest threats to human existence globally.

He said all over the world, researchers are making efforts to invent a drug that will permanently cure HIV/AIDS and expressed optimism that a global success was imminent as according to him, “ with the Nigerian anti-retroviral drug from my research finding, the world now know that to permanently cure the scourge, you need nanotechnology.”

“You cannot cure the disease with ordinary anti-retroviral drugs because their molecules are big and cannot reach the sanctuary cells,” he said.

The Prof of Veterinary Medicine said that the only medicine that could cure the virus should have small molecules, which could penetrate every part of the body, where ordinary drugs cannot reach.

According to Ezeibe, “Silicates have molecules that are 0.96 nanometer in size, while HIV has molecules as big as 110 nanometer, hence silicates can reach even the sanctuary cells.”

He further said that “the particles of AMS are positively and negatively charged, while HIV-infested cells are positively charged.”

He said that “one can use simple sugar (glucose) to transport charged molecules across the mucus membrane to the blood, up to the sanctuary cells.”

Ezeibe who said he had carried out a successful animal trial with the AMS and was currently doing clinical trial added that the drug did not have adverse side effects because “it works by physical effects on the virus.”

He said that with the financial assistance from the Abia State government and the university authorities, he had handled several cases, from within and outside Nigeria, free of charge.

He said that President Muhammadu Buhari recently approved his application for the patency to produce the drug for consumption.

He said that he was looking for funds for the mass production and commercialization of the drug.

Ezeibe said that the drug had successfully passed through peer review by 21 researchers and laboratory tests but because he lacked the legal backing to directly administer the drugs, he was working in collaboration with the University’s Medical Centre.

He said, “It is within the domain of a veterinarian to develop drugs which would be tried on animals before they are used on human beings by physicians.”

In his opening remarks, the President of the SUG, Mr Precious Ononiwu, said that the lecture was organised to “educate and enlighten the students on the new drug.”

Ononiwu commended Ezeibe for the invention, saying that it had further boosted the image of the university above other universities in Nigeria and beyond.

“Any time I attend meetings of SUG presidents in the South East, I now brag that the professor that invented the cure for HIV/AIDS comes from my university,” he said.

Strong Quake Rooted Iran-Iraq Border

Over 170 people have been killed and over 1,000 injured when a 7.3-magnitude earthquake rooted the mountainous Iran-Iraq border triggering landslides that hindered rescue efforts, officials said Monday.

Panicked people fleeing a building in Sulaimaniyah, northern Iraq, as windows shattered, as posted on twitter.

The quake struck late Sunday, while images from the nearby town of Darbandikhan showed major walls and concrete structures collapsed.

“There are 164 people dead and more than 1,686 injured,” Behnam Saidi, the deputy head of the Iranian government’s crisis unit set up to handle the response to the quake, told state television.

Six others were reported dead on the Iraq side of the border.

We are in the process of setting up three emergency relief camps,” said Mojtaba Nikkerdar, the deputy governor of Iran’s Kermanshah province.

The quake hit 30 kilometres (19 miles) southwest of Halabja in Iraqi Kurdistan at around 9.20 pm, when many people would have been at home, the US Geological Survey said.

Iran’s emergency services chief Pir Hossein Koolivand said it was “difficult to send rescue teams to the villages because the roads have been cut off… there have been landslides”.

The worst-hit towns in Iran were Qasr-e Shirin in Kermanshah and Azgaleh, about 40 kilometres northwest, the official IRNA news agency said.

It added that 30 Red Cross teams had been sent to the quake zone, parts of which had experienced power cuts.

In Iraq, officials said the quake had killed six people in Sulaimaniyah province and injured around 150.

In Sulaimaniyah, residents ran out onto the streets and some damage to property was reported, an AFP reporter there said.

“Four people were killed by the earthquake” in Darbandikhan, the town’s mayor Nasseh Moulla Hassan told AFP.

A child and an elderly person were killed in Kalar, according to the director of the hospital in the town about 70 kilometres south of Darbandikhan, and 105 people injured.

– Residents flee homes in Turkey –

The quake, which struck at a relatively shallow depth of 25 kilometres, was felt for about 20 seconds in Baghdad, and for longer in other provinces of Iraq, AFP journalists said.

On the Iranian side of the border, the tremor shook several cities in the west of the country including Tabriz.

It was also felt in southeastern Turkey, “from Malatya to Van”, an AFP correspondent said. In the town of Diyarbakir, residents were reported to have fled their homes.

The quake struck along a 1,500 kilometre fault line between the Arabian and Eurasian tectonic plates, a belt extending through western Iran and into northeastern Iraq.

The area sees frequent seismic activity.

In 1990, a 7.4-magnitude quake near the Caspian sea in northern Iran killed 40,000 people and left 300,000 more injured and half a million homeless. Within seconds the quake reduced dozens of towns and nearly 2,000 villages to rubble.

Thirteen years later, a catastrophic quake struck the ancient southeast Iranian city of Bam, famed for its mud brick buildings, killing at least 31,000 people and flattening swathes of the city.

Since then, Iran has experienced at least two major quake disasters, one in 2005 that killed more than 600 and another in 2012 that left some 300 dead.

More recently, a 5.7-magnitude earthquake near Iran’s border with Turkmenistan in May killed two people, injured hundreds and caused widespread damage.

Woman Sue Ex Over Re-marrying

A divorcee, Hajara Usman, on Monday sued her ex husband before an Area Court in Karu, Abuja for blocking her from re-marrying.

Usman, who resides in Asokoro, Abuja told the court that she got married to one Adamu Abdullahi in 2011 but they got divorced through Islamic way in 2016.

That during the cause of the marriage Abdullahi tortured her at the slightest provocation.

“My parents actually forced me to marry him. I have never loved him and when I got into the marriage, I discovered that Abdullahi was ill-tempered.

“He beats me up often at the slightest provocation and his parents and mine had warned him on numerous occasions to stop the act but he never listened’’.

Usman claimed that Abdullahi divorced her in November 2016, compelling her to leave his house immediately after pronouncing `divorce’ three times in line with Islamic injunction.

“I have long observed my compulsory Idah (waiting) period but my ex-husband has refused to allow me to marry other suitors coming for me.’’

She told the court that having finished observing the waiting period, two men had at different times indicated interest to marry her.

Usman said that the moment her former husband got wind of her wedding plans and the ceremony that followed, he came to the venue and disrupted the occasion.

“ In April this year, the man who approached me to marry me came to perform the wedding rites, my ex-husband sent a group of boys to disrupt the ceremony.

“ On another occasion, when he heard I was about to re-marry, he way-laid me and beat me up so much that I had to plead with him.

“On the day he beat me, he said he was beating me so that no man would desire me since I decided to move on and re-marry almost immediately.”

She pleaded with the court to compel her former husband to explain why he would not want her to re-marry because his actions had discouraged her suitors.

Usman also pleaded with the court to divorce her and Abdullahi formally and legally, saying that she no longer had interest in Abdullahi.

“ I want the court to issue us a divorce certificate and restrain him from coming close to me,’’ Usman pleaded.

Reacting to the statement of his former wife, Abdullahi, who also resides in Asokoro, said that it was true that they were no longer married.

He said that his grouse was that his former wife came to the court to tell lies against him.

“ Since I divorced her, according to the tenets of our religion, I had nothing to do with her.

“I have avoided her and her family because the marriage was arranged between our parents and we were never meant for each other,’’ he said.

The estranged couple has no child from the marriage according to the Nigerian Pilot.

The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Baba, adjourned the case until Nov. 1 for the plaintiff to come to court with at least two persons, who witnessed the disruption of her marriage rites.

Baba said that a divorce certificate would be issued to the parties at the completion of the case since there was no more love between them and they had also been living apart.

He, however, urged the parties to maintain peace since they lived in the same neighbourhood.

Agricultural and Rural Development Secretary in the FCT, Mr Stanley Nzekwe, has persuade residents to participate actively in agricultural activities to ensure food security.

The Secretary said in a briefing on Sunday in Abuja as part of closing activities marking this year’s World Food Day.

According to the Secretary, constant activity engagement in agricultural activities will help to control the effect of food insufficiency.

The theme of 2017 World Food Day is “Change the Future of Migration: Invest in Food Security and Rural Development.”

The secretary noted that the whole essence of life revolved around food and shelter.

He said “this year’s World Food Day was anchored around President Muhammadu Buhari’s promise to the citizens of  Nigeria about self-sufficiency in food production and the call on us to feed ourselves.

“So, I am urging FCT residents and indeed the entire nation to know that whatever you do in life is geared toward feeding.

“Therefore, this year, in preparation for dry season farming, every man and every family must plant something.”

He appealed to residents to farm around their houses if they did not have farmlands.

He said, “let us have a system where we have the zeal to produce for ourselves and the commercial farmers can produce to feed themselves and take some to the market.”

He explained that the FCT had put tremendous effort toward food production by providing seedlings, pesticides and some implements.

He added that several areas had been mapped out for agriculture activities.

He pointed out that “over 5,000 hectares of land are under plantation with giant elephant grass, which can enhance cattle production and eliminate clash between herdsmen and farmers in FCT.

“There is also the value-added chain on ensuring that what we produce is not wasted by not effectively processing agricultural products.”

Nzekwe also said that Central Bank of Nigeria’s Anchor Borrower’s Programme had given a real boost to agriculture productivity in FCT and nationwide.

“This is because the FCT has provided over 100 hectares of land for cluster farming across the six area councils.”

IPOB Instructs Pupils to Return to Class

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has given orders to parents and guardians in the affected South-East to send their children and wards back to class.

Some parents and guardians as at Wednesday had withdrawn their wards from schools following a rumour that a military medical outreach had been introduced on to the pupils in the area.

The wide spread rumour made some schools to close down, while others recorded  a low turnout.

It was revealed that IPOB had put high security measures in place for the safety of the children.

It is stated that IPOB would continue to monitor the situation in the affected area especially Anambra State, to ensure that nothing would come up to the school children.

“We, the Indigenous People of Biafra and its leadership worldwide under the command of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to inform Biafrans across the length and breadth of Biafra land to return our children back to school from Monday, October 16, 2017.

“This directive is important because we have determined that for the time being, men of the Nigerian Army responsible for the murderous outrage of forcible vaccinations of our children have been withdrawn from our schools and banned from continuing with this criminal act.

“Right now, IPOB has ascertained that Nigerian soldiers have withdrawn the vaccination programme.

“Our early warning team is in place all over Anambra State and should anything untoward be spotted on Monday or Nigerian Army vehicles found anywhere near any school, IPOB would raise the alarm immediately to recall our children as was the case last week.

The group maintained that it was determined to ensure the safety and well-being of children in the area, adding that under no circumstance would IPOB allow them “to be poisoned with killer virus administered by those that want all Biafrans dead.”

 “At IPOB, our children are important to us; after all, we are sacrificing our lives on a daily basis in pursuit of Biafra that we may give them a future to be proud of.”
